Defaced with Braids

Removing my face from my self portraits is the most liberating thing I've done in a long time (Andrew still doesn't like it). It doesn't always have to be a Sharpie, right? Part of this ongoing series, oh and this one, too.

Love this one, dearie. Still conjuring up the perfect assignment for you! Stay tuned.

Give Andrew a 'hello' for me and a swift kick in the butt.

I'm getting worried. No more defacing. Okay? Have a good day Jen. I love your polaroids especially the photos from Par-ee.

Oh God. You're braids. They're perfection.

I was always told a person should do a self-portrait once a year, yep. And I always thought the concept was a bit self-centered. Oh I understand its foundation…..study of the passage of time….comparison of changes in style with a constant subject. Yet still, I keep coming back to self-centeredness.

I fully understand why you are removing your face. Society is certainly judgmental on appearances. They might devalue work….improve the value of work…..simply based on the looks of the worker. And don’t we all want our work valued on MERIT.

Is not a song lovely regardless of the singer if it is sung with skill?
