So we waited until the very last minute to go to the Louvre. My ADD prevents me from spending long periods of time in museums, so we knew we wouldn't be there for long (Andrew suffers from the same affliction). Lucky for us the museum stays open until 10pm on Friday nights, so around 6:00 we headed over (After making a pit stop at Laduree for macarons). The nice thing about going to the Louvre at 6pm is that the line is quite bearable. Although once inside it was bustling.
Now here comes the best part. The part that excited me more than seeing the Mona Lisa (it's smaller than I expected) . . . you can TAKE PICTURES inside the museum. I literally jumped for joy, since I am much more interested in people looking at art than at the art itself (I know, I know, I probably shouldn't admit that, but the charade can go on no longer. That's just how I feel). So I was able to take this

and when we finally got to the Mona Lisa (did I already tell you that it was small--and behind some sort of bullet proof glass?), I forgot to take a polaroid of it because I was more interested in this
I'm pretty sure Andrew thought I was crazy for being so giddy, but I just couldn't help it. We did still look at some really beautiful art, but for me, it's these photos that satisfied me the most.
p.s. For some reason blogger is doing something weird to these photos. They don't look square, but i promise, they are. If you don't believe me (which would be very rude seeing as I have always been honest with you) check here.

Taking photos was my favorite part about the Louvre too. Everyone was just soooo hyped on the Mona Lisa and once I finally saw it, it was just a let down. That's it!? Yawn.
these photos are way more interesting than looking at mona lisa for me:) Im not going there again. people just push me from everywhere to take a slight view of the painting. It is so much fun to look at these people from far, fighting to get a shot of her.

I'm with you - I prefer watching people and taking pictures than staring at art for too long!

Jen- I was an Art History major and it was on a trip to Europe where I discovered my ADD in particular that it appeared in museums. I came home with pictures of dozens of window boxes filled with geraniums and that was when I knew I should pursue flowers and not Art History.
I too prefer your photos. Thanks for going to Paris so I can live vicariously through your dreamy Polaroids.

I'm in love...really...well jealous but happy for your taste buds:) When I was at the Muse D'Orse I was totally obsessed with the ceiling pattern-- I thought what great ceramic tiles this would make-- and the hardware that was used to hang signs and artwork...yup, hardware! I couldn't tell you one painting that was in there:)

You're so right about the Louvre- I went there and after 850million pictures of Jesus (nothing wrong with Jesus, mind you)and being let down by the Mona Lisa, my friend and I played "what country are they from?" while sitting on a bench. That was the highlight.

a) laduree has pretty much THE BEST MACAROONS IN THE WORLD, and i'm so lucky that they have one in london as well so i can go eat wee sugary pistachio bits of heaven whenever i want!
b) there is the best scene in julian barnes's 'metroland' about people watching and note-taking in the national gallery (london). you would love it. agreed, it's one of the best parts of museum-going, and i don't even have ADD. : )
